Lansdowne is one of India's most peaceful hill stations — a Garhwal Rifles cantonment town founded in 1887, surrounded by dense oak and rhododendron forests at 1,706 m. Unlike Mussoorie or Nainital, it has stayed almost commercially untouched, which is precisely what made it perfect for the closing 2019 Ultrawarrior edition.
After Rishikesh, Nainital, and Chail, Lansdowne offered Rungreen something the previous three couldn't: low tourist density, military-maintained trails, and a route entirely free of vehicular interference.

September weather in Lansdowne — post-monsoon, pre-winter — meant 12-20°C temperatures, mossy forest floors, and the occasional cloud rolling through the trail. The course rewarded both endurance and surefooted technique.
Operating a Race in a Military Cantonment
Organising any public event in a cantonment town requires close coordination with the Defence Estates and the local Garrison. Three operational protocols defined the Lansdowne edition:

The Lansdowne edition was the largest of the four 2019 Ultrawarriors, drawing repeat warriors who had run all three previous editions. The shared finisher dinner at the Lansdowne club featured Garhwali specialties — phaanu, gahat ki dal, and bhatt ke dubke — and became the closing celebration of an iconic first year for the series.
